Ollie, Stewie and Buddy

My session with Ollie, Stewie and Buddy was one of the most magical and special afternoons I’ve ever had. All three dogs were great, their parents Anita and Moz were lovely, the weather was perfect – but most of all, towards the end of our session there was a marriage proposal!

Before I get ahead of myself though, let me tell you more about the dogs. We started our session with individual shots of each dog, to help them adjust to the camera. Ollie is a three year old rough collie (get it – Ollie the Collie!) with the most magnificent level of floofiness.

Stewie is twelve years old and the senior gentleman of the family. He was a little suspicious of the camera to start with but was happy enough for me to use my zoom lens to capture stoic poses.

Buddy is a year old and a new addition to the family! Anita and Moz adopted him about a month before our session so everyone was still getting to know each other. Buddy delivered some great head tilts and inquisitive faces.

Anita and Moz had mentioned to me that they really wanted a photo of them together with their dogs – especially as Buddy was new top the family, they didn’t really have too many together. We did a family photo here in the magical woodland – Anita actually commented that this would be handy to have for their (at this stage unconfirmed) future wedding. Little did she know what was coming!

We did a few action shots (check out Ollie’s majestic fur!) before heading around to a swamp area. It’s actually MUCH nicer than the name implies – you just need to know the right spots to go. Stewie had warmed up to the camera by this point and was delivering some big happy smiles. Buddy was still a little unsure but was more than happy to come closer to my camera to check it out.

We headed across to one of my favourite places in Sydney to photograph – a forest of tall trees where the sunset light shimmers and sparkles with warm light.

Moz had bought along some gorgeous fairy lights and lantern jars to help set the scene…which of course I immediately had to place the dogs right in the middle of.

As a pet photographer, the focus of my sessions is always on the dogs. I always encourage owners to jump in for a shot or two together but as a general rule, I don’t photograph people. As pre-arranged with Moz though, I offered to take a few photos of Anita and Moz together. I had to find a way for Anita to look away so Moz could get down on one knee…I said a super awkward line about taking some photos looking away from each other and thankfully Anita complied. Have a look at what happened next…

…and just look at this happy new family.

Congratulations Anita and Moz and thanks for a great session with Ollie, Stewie and Buddy!
