Magic and Fairytales

Ahem…I mean ‘fairytails’ of course!

I love the idea of imagining the world from a dogs point of view. They don’t have the same clutter going on on their minds as humans – get to work on time, write that report, do the grocery shopping, go to the gym, eat healthy, get the kids in bed on time, climb the corporate ladder, etc. You know the drill. The stuff that occupies our thoughts and our days all too much.

Dogs, however, get on with the business of living life. They deal with everything as it comes – and every time something good happens it becomes the best day ever! I love to think about how dogs see the world that they live in and how they relate it to themselves….just like in a fairytale, everything is larger than life.

For instance, if we were to walk through a field of flowers, they’d come up to our calves and we’d think they were nice. But for Polly, the flowers are enormous and colourful!

Storm has waited patiently for a long time for someone to adopt her…she always knew she was a shining star but she just had to wait for someone to notice her twinkle! Storm was adopted last week and I’m so thrilled for her.

For a dog living in a truly magical fairytale world, you can’t go past Sophie. She’s a sweet girl who spends her time daydreaming about all magical adventures in forests. I can just imagine her giggling away at the bottom of a fairy garden in a backyard!

And of course we couldn’t leave the boys out of the magic! Chance has his head in the clouds and has big ideas and plans for when he gets adopted one day.

I’m having heaps of fun photographing dogs in this style of shot – I call this my ‘Storybook’ style of photography! Do you have any other ideas about larger than life shots I can take to portray how your dog sees the world?

  1. I love your perspective on the “lookdown.” It looks like you’re dropping fistfuls of popcorn on the dog! If it were Bella, she’d have her mouth wide open.

Thank you! Lots of dropping things down on very, VERY patient dogs! I think the most fairy like one is the magic toadstools – such a great little junk shop find!

Thanks Angela! Yes, I definitely get plenty of open mouths and surprised faces when taking these shots!
